Meet the Members of the Board of Education

Joe Leane has lived in the northwest suburbs, including Mount Prospect, for most of the past 25 years. Leane was elected to the Board of Education on April 1, 2003.
Prior to his service on the Board of Education, Leane worked on the Facilities Task Force that recommended the reopening of Westbrook School as a pre-kindergarten through 1st grade facility in 2002. Leane also worked on the April 2003 referendum campaign.
After graduating from Maine East high school in Park Ridge in 1982, Leane attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. Leane received a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1997. He is currently a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
Leane is the co-owner of a Hazard, Keefe & Leane Engineering, Inc., an engineering consulting company in Wheeling, Illinois. Avid in his profession, Leane is a member in various engineering societies. During his spare time, Leane enjoys doing home renovation and remodeling projects. He also golfs when he can during the summer.
Joe and his wife Lori have three daughters: Mara, Jenna and Diana, who are District 57 students.

Michael Withey was elected to the Board of Education in 2007. A 39 year resident of Mount Prospect and district 57 alumni, Michael attended both Lions Park and Lincoln Junior High schools. Michael and his wife Jennifer have five children that will be attending district 57 schools for the next 11 years.
After graduating from Prospect High School, Michael received a bachelor degree from Loyola University of Chicago and a MBA (specializing in finance) from the University of Chicago.
Michael is currently the President of a steel distribution and processing company located in the south suburbs.
Other community activities include coaching girls softball with the Mount Prospect Park District and teaching Sunday School at St. Paul’s Church.

A former special education teacher (23 years in District 57) and MPEA President ( a post she held for 11 years), Sue Ramstedt also taught special education in Champaign and Morton Grove school districts. Ramstedt is currently retired and continues privately tutoring students in the Mount Prospect community.
During her tenure in District 57, Ramstedt helped to establish a mentoring program for new teachers, negotiated contracts, participated in special education, reading, language arts, and math committees, and was a past officer in both Fairview and Lincoln PTAs. She served 6 years on the Board of the Northwest Mental Health Center.
Ramstedt earned an undergraduate degree in Special Education at the University of Illinois and a masters degree in Administration from Roosevelt University. Ramstedt has two sons (Mike and Jim), both of whom are alumni of District 57.
Ramstedt has lived in the same house in Mount Prospect for over 30 years and she continues to enjoy home projects, as well as road trips and time spent with family and friends.

|  Rich Benson previously served on the District 57 School Board from 1997 to 2005. During that time he was recognized by the National School Boards Association for his Commitment to Public Education (an award bestowed upon less than 1% of the nation's 95,000+ school board members). Rich is also a five time Master School Board member designee by the Illinois Association of School Boards.
Professionally, Benson works as a Senior Project Manager. He enjoys sports, and in particular golf, for recreational activities. Rich and wife, Carol, are the parents of one current student and two graduates of District 57

| Joann Broderick Harms was elected to the Board of Education in April 2005, and currently serves as school board representative to the Fairview PTA.
After graduating from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Joann received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She then received her law degree from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri.
Joann has served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Bureau at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and a Legal Research Assistant at the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Lake County, Illinois.
Most of all, Joann values her present and most important position, attending to her two children, Steven and Suzanne. Currently, Joann also serves as an Arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program.
Joann and her husband, John, both grew up in the northern suburbs and in 1995 moved to Mount Prospect, District 57. Their oldest child started kindergarten at Fairview in the fall of 2004.
| A graduate from DePaul University with a Bachelor Degree in Commerce from the School of Accounting, also a Certified Public Accountant.
Work experience includes: large and small corporate accounting, reporting and tax compliance; controller of a real estate investment firm: individual income tax preparation.
Enjoyed volunteering for District 57’s PTA’s, Girl Scouts, Mount Prospect Cheerleading club and the Mount Prospect Finance Commission.
I am married with 2 daughters at Prospect High School and have lived in Mount Prospect since 1989.
| Greg Kurr served as Business Services Director of District 57 from 2000-2005. He has been active in many events in the Mount Prospect community, Ranging from Rotary Club membership to participation on the regional United Way board of directors. He is currently Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations in North Shore School District 112.
