Fall 2006 Grants Awarded

Curriculum

·       Area rugs for kindergarten classes to enhance classroom environment.

·       CD players to be used in literacy program and to enhance ESL (English as a second language) instruction.

·       Earth balloon (2-day experience), an apparatus that accommodates up to 30 students simultaneously as an adjunct to lessons in geography, math, and science, as well as Dr. Chiao Learning Center activities.

·       Dewey Decimal System rug for Learning Resource Center that will be used to orient students to the Dewey Decimal System.

·       Author/illustrator presentations to enhance reading and learning activities.

·       Purchase of a bassoon (a bass instrument in the woodwind family) to introduce music students to an instrument that is too costly for individual families to buy or rent.

·       Listening center equipment designed to help early readers develop listening and reading skills.

Curriculum/Technology

·       “Clicker” technology that allows students to respond (the whole class simultaneously) to instructor questions by remote control, and teachers to immediately assess class understanding of new concepts, lessons.

Technology

·       Portable PA system for physical education classes.

Wellness

·       Bag/board game for physical education classes.

·       Tricycles and helmets for Early Childhood and ECDEC students.
