Strategic Objectives
1) Objective A: The District will strive for a balanced budget, with justification of variances from a balanced budget presented for Board approval.
Approach: This initiative is undertaken to meet both the Board's desire to eliminate deficit spending, and to align with the state mandate for a balanced budget. This is a step in the multi-year process of attaining a balanced budget for District 57. Reporting that focuses on variances and specific budget functions will continue to be presented to the Board of Education to increase fiscal accountability.
Responsible Role(s): Board of Education, Superintendent, Business Manager, and Budget Administrators
Time Frame: 2008-09
Objective B: The District will establish a multi-year financial plan that supports the District strategic plan.
Approach: Although an extended approach in fiscal planning has been presented to the Board of Education previously, it has lacked the specificity and context of a multi-year framework. The Board of Education will receive a five-year financial plan. Such a fiscal format will highlight annual financial targets, which will enhance planning and provide a path for the District's financial future. Specific recommendations for the usage of fund balances will also be presented to the Board of Education for review and consideration.
