READING
A kindergarten student:
- Enjoys listening and retelling stories
- Develops an interest in a variety of literature including picture books, poetry and rhyme, and informational texts
- Recognizes upper and lower case letters of alphabet
- Identifies rhyming words
- Understands and identifies letter/sound relationships
- Develops an awareness of print
- Identifies the parts of a book/poem (cover, title, author, page numbers)
- Directionality (reading from left to right)
- Tracking the text word for word
- Punctuation and capitalization
- Uses picture clues to understand text
- Identifies kindergarten sight words
- Reads simple texts containing familiar letter-sound correspondences and high-frequency words
WRITING
A kindergarten student:
- Prints first and last name (first letter capitalized, all the rest should be lower case)
- Forms upper and lower case letters neatly
- Uses appropriate letters to represent words
- Attempts to write simple words

MATH
A kindergarten student:

The kindergarten social science curriculum focuses on the child's relationship to:

Holiday celebrations and family traditions are explored. Students are beginning to understand the world in spatial terms and are challenged to connect geography to events.

A kindergarten student:

TECHNOLOGY
The kindergarten child has the opportunity to experience technology in the classroom and in the computer lab. Children use selected software which is integrated with the curriculum.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
A kindergarten student:
- Explores spatial awareness through finding open and closed space, tagging, and dodging activities
- Recognizes and demonstrates left and right orientation
- Demonstrates basic locomotor skills (skip, gallop, jump) through continued practice, organized games, and dance
- Explores basic ball handling skills (throw, roll, shoot, catch, kick, dribble - hands and feet) through continued practice, organized games, and activities
- Explores body relationships (side by side, face to face, right-left) through rhythm and dance activities
- Explores basic skills to manipulate and control objects through the use of bats, balls, bean bags, hoops, ropes, parachutes, paddles, and scooters
- Has opportunities to learn the fundamental skills of sharing, taking turns, and working independently of others
- Demonstrates educational gymnastic skills through the practice of tumbling, balance, basic stunts, and movement sequencing
- Participates in an environment that promotes physical fitness, maximum effort, enjoyment, and sportsmanship
- Follows basic rules and strategies to enhance participation and safety
MUSIC
A kindergarten student:
- Identifies and responds to a steady beat in singing, playing, and movement
- Sings alone and with others using good vocal technique
- Identifies qualities of musical sound (soft/loud, short/long, fast/slow, high/low)
- Identifies and performs repeating patterns in music
- Reads rhythms using quarter notes, eighth notes, and rests
- Makes music together with other students using singing, movement, and instruments
- Dances alone, with a partner, changing partners, and line dances
- Demonstrates performance skills by singing, playing, and dancing together in a concert setting
